Why Now?
  • Dichlorvos insecticide has been banned.
  • All stocks must be removed before 1st April 2004, or the Museum will be in breach of Health & Safety legislation.
  • Naphthalene has not been used in the department for more than 10 years due to legal and health and safety reasons.

Extra precautions for workstations within Zone A collections
  • DO NOT introduce fresh material such as fresh plants, cut flowers or identification material and new accessions to area without IPM treatment
  • DO NOT open perimeter windows (use alterative environmental conditioning methods such as air coolers and fans)
  • KEEP work area tidy as special cleaning protocols apply
  • KEEP all vulnerable collection material in over night collection storage
  • KEEP all stored packaging and disposed materials in sealed containers
  • TRANSPORT consumables in sealed containers

Keeping Rodents out
  • Keep outside doors closed
  • Ensure rodent proofing is maintained

Don’t Feed the mice!
  • We use poison bait to control mice
  •  BUT
  •  this only works if we stop feeding them with human food

Success lies with you!
  • Be aware of the Risk Zone you are in and act accordingly.
  • Store boxes or postal boxes held temporarily within workspaces must be placed in sealed plastic bags.
  • Keep your work areas clean and tidy.
  • Eat only in designated areas, never near collections.
  • Quarantine – don’t bring untreated material into the collections (including furniture, stores & field equipment!)
  • No pot plants or flowers in collections areas.
  • No live cultures anywhere without express permission.
  • Remove wool felt and cotton wool from collections.
  • Monitor and Report!
